Palatable Tea Towels launched its range of watercolour wine region map tea towels to the gift trade industry at the Melbourne Gift & Lifestyle expo recently.
The first time we've ever exhibited at a trade show, the pressure was on to make our stand appealing to visitors, considering one of our sister businesses is event prop business My Event Decor.
We booked a modest stand of 3m wide x 2m deep and were lucky enough to score a corner position and set about creating a wine cellar feel to our stand.
Because our stand was so small, there was no room for chairs let alone sitting down so we were on our feet, greeting visitors in our branded white bar aprons.
We displayed the tea towels on the wall framed in simple black Ikea frames - did you know some people frame tea towels as art, and never use them?! - as well as in their retail-ready format, suspended on our white slat wall display.
We also created a gift hamper which we mocked up with a hyacinth weave basket filled with local gourmet foods and a sample of our Mornington Peninsula wine region tea towel to give prospective clients the idea of using them for settlement gifts or as a gift hamper, placing it on our wooden wine barrel.
Our faux antler chandelier suspended over the white pressed metal bar was a bit of whimsy, to make us stand out, but the bar turned out to be a teensy bit too high for 165cm-high me in my expo-friendly flat shoes.
All in all, it was a great way to introduce our regional tourism souvenir to the trade and to win some new customers.
